Djibouti Land Based Casinos
The country of Djibouti has been working hard to be a part of the 21st century’s advantages; including the tourism that legal gambling can draw. A few years ago I had the privilege of being able to spend some time in this amazingly diverse country’s capital city. The city’s outlets for grand entertainment are limited, but very opulent. One of the highlights of my trip was the cities grand and indulgent casinos.
For some time the city’s had three resort style hotels with casinos, one in the Sheraton line and one in the Kempinski line and an independent that is very nice by less international standards. All these properties are opulent and luxurious hotels with spas, bars, nightclubs and endless amenities.
The Grand Casino de Djibouti and Sheraton Hotel opened in 1981 and the Aden Bay Casino is part of their offerings. This casino has long been the well-known and reputable spot for gambling in Djibouti . Other casinos seem to have come and gone, however the Aden Bay Casino remains a stable enterprise in an ever-changing nightlife landscape. The Casino features 60 gaming machines and 9 table and poker games there’s also a restaurant and bar on property and a hotel. The dealers and staff all seemed well trained and quite competent.
In November 2006, the Kempinski’s Djibouti Palace opened and it originally featured a world-class casino, the Safari Casino Club featured 60 gaming machines and 7 table games. The establishment also featured attractive dealers and wait staff, often of European descent. A few years later it closed and the space was turned into storage. In recent years, it reopened however, all the games were automated with no human interface. As one might imagine, this led to the eventual closing again of their casino and I’ve not been able to find any information about its possible reopening.
Another option for gambling in Djibouti is the Imperial Resort and Red Sea Hotel however, there seems to be little or no information on the Internet about this casino. I was there in 2009 and it’s less magnificent than the other 2 gambling establishments the city has to offer. The décor is in keeping with the smooth, uncluttered lines of the area. Myself and my party were able to gamble and have fun. We felt quite safe and comfortable with the staff and house policies.
Gambling opportunities in Djibouti are varied and ranging in their offerings and the clientele they cater to. There are many things to consider when planning a gambling vacation and Djibouti offers something for all tastes.
